Abstract
The purpose of this study was to remove the causable occlusal interferences and to get the stable occlusion because the abnormal occlusion results to cause T.M.J. disorder.
The occlusal adjustment is the procedure to change accurately and precisely the tooth surface to improve the relationship of the all tooth contacts on the occlusal surface. The application of the occlusal adjustment is limited because this
procedure is
irreversible and the reduction of the tooth structure is required.
The occlusal adjustment is theortically the first consideration for the treatment of the traumatic occlusion, but all traumatic occlusion is not treated only by the occlusal adjustment, and it can be needed also by the procedure such as the
orthodontic
treatment, the splinting and the prosthodontic treatment.
Therefore the occlusal adjustment has to be done to only reform the destructive occlusal force, and it has not to be done for the purpose to prevent in advance the presumable traumatic occlusion in the state of normal occlusion, for we can not
know
exactly whether some occlusal forces are destructive or not later.
That is why its purpose and indication has to be considered first before the occlusal adjustment is done.
These clinical cases were the premature contacts in the natural teeth, that is, the premature contacts in the centric relation occlusion, the premature contacts in the centric occlusal, the premature contacts at the anterior teeth in the centric
relation occlusion, the premature contacts at the balancing side in the eccentric occlusion. There premature contracts could be solved according to the principles of occlusal adjustment, and then the good stable occlusion was obtained.
